Biography

John L. Johnson, CCIM, CPA, serves as national auctioneer and chief administrative officer for Sperry Van Ness Accelerated Marketing Co., the auction arm for Sperry Van Ness, marketing and selling by auction all types of properties throughout the United States. With over 30 years of real estate auction, brokerage, loan and troubled asset experience, Johnson has sold properties in 39 states.

Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, Johnson served as President for Interstate Auction Company, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. In that capacity, he managed auctions for many institutions and other sellers, including the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC), the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), US Marshals Service, U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, Bank of America, Wachovia, SunTrust Bank, and many other entities. For the RTC, he pioneered the Caravan Auction concept, and also oversaw rehabilitation contractors for the Affordable Housing program. Interstate Auction Company was the exclusive auction source for Prudential Commercial Services on a national multi-year contract. Previously, Johnson served as President of a major real estate firm in Atlanta, Georgia and as Executive Vice President a national real estate and bank consulting firm.

Johnson has been involved in the evaluation of troubled assets, loan portfolios, and real estate holdings of banks as well as in the disposition of assets.

Johnson is a multiple recipient of Sperry Van Ness’s Partners Circle award, and was a three time winner of Prudential’s Chairman’s Circle award. He holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member and Certified Public Accountant designations. He has been a speaker and instructor, including for continuing education programs for legal and real estate continuing professional education programs, and has been published in journals and other media. He is a member of several professional associations.

John earned two master’s degrees, in Accounting and Industrial Management, from the University of North Dakota, and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee. He served as a captain with the USAF, with a Top Secret Crypto designation.
